PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng leads Vietnamese Gov. senior delegations to 12th ASEAN Summit and 2nd East Asia Meeting

VNGOVNet – At the invitation of Ms. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, President of the Republic of the Philippines, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng led the Vietnamese Government’s delegation to attend the 12th ASEAN Summit and the related meetings, including ASEAN + 3 Summits with China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea; ASEAN + 1 Summits with China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and India separately, and the 2nd East Asia Summit (EAS–2) held in Cebu (Philippines) from January 12–15, 2007.

During this trip, PM Nguyễn Tấn also takes part in the Senior Meeting between Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand (ACMECS) and has bilateral meetings with leaders of some countries inside and outside ASEAN.

The 12th ASEAN Summit under the theme “Toward One Caring and Sharing Community” will focus on discussing ASEAN’s internal cooperation and external relations. The related senior meetings will exchange opinions on regional and international situations, discuss orientations on the cooperation between ASEAN and non-member partners as well as on the promotion of regional processes like ASEAN 3 and EAS. On this occasion, leaders of the related countries will sign, approve or acknowledge many significant declarations, agreements and reports.

The Vietnamese delegation headed by PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng will work to further Vietnam’s increased role and status on international arena, contributing to the strengthened unity and cooperation within ASEAN and promoting the cooperation between ASEAN and outside partners in line with Vietnam’s requirements and interests.
