VN, Paraguay boost cooperation ties

VGP – State President Nguyễn Minh Triết and his Paraguayan counterpart Lugo Mendez agreed to cement the bilateral ties and strengthen coordination at regional and international forums.

The two leaders held talks on March 9 in Hà Nội during the official visit of Paraguayan President Logo Mendez to Việt Nam.

On the spirit of openness, frankness and mutual understanding, the two sides talked about regional and international issues of common concern, of measures to boost cooperation in such areas as agriculture, trade, industry, and investment.

President Nguyễn Minh Triết congratulated Paraguay for scoring high economic growth rate of 14.5% in 2010 amid the world’s economic decline.

The Vietnamese President suggested that the two sides would seek measures to uphold similar and supplementary advantages of the two economies, and took the occasion to thank people and Government of Paraguay for their assistance to Việt Nam’s cause of national liberation and construction.

Việt Nam is playing an important role in Paraguay’s foreign policy, as the country has high regional status, dynamic economy and a 90-million consumption market, said President Logo Mendez.

The Paraguayan President highlighted that the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries’ foreign ministers would create a significant channel for better information sharing and mutual understanding between the two governments.

He also said that as the rotating chair of MERCOSUR, the largest trading bloc in South America, Paraguay hopes to boost ties with ASEAN for the interests of respective member states.
