eBay dives head first into VN

VNGOP - The world's largest e-market place, eBay, has expanded into Vietnam by launching a new interface in Vietnamese at www.eBay.vn on June 27.b

June 28, 2007 7:23 AM GMT+7

The launch will act as a catalyst for trading opportunities by supporting local business to conduct e-transactions as well as introducing Vietnamese products to customers worldwide, said Sam McDonagh, Director of eBay Southeast Asia.
The director said that due to a high rate of Internet users, which accounts for 17 percent of the country's total population, together with its rapid economic development, the Vietnamese e-market is being forecast to generate revenues of over US$ 40 million per year.
This market is projected to grow at 40 percent every year, McDonagh said.
According to experts, 38 markets have so far joined eBay, drawing more than 233 million users worldwide and posted a turnover of US$ 1.25 billion in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year increase of 23 percent.
