Work starts on power transmission projects worth roughly VND12 trillion

EVN has assigned EVNNPT to be the investor of the three aforementioned projects, while the Central Viet Nam Power Projects Management Board (CPMB) represents EVNNPT to manage the projects.

These are the urgent power works in the National Power Development Plan, serving the goal of transmitting power from the Quang Trach Power Center to the National Power System (NPS), while increasing the transmission capacity of the NPS’s 500 kV power grid connecting regions.

The combined scale of the three projects includes the building of nearly 742km of 500 kV double circuit line via nine cities and provinces (Ha Tinh, Quang Ninh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Kon Tum and Gia Lai), the construction of eight 500 kV feeders at the Quang Trach Power Center’s power distribution yard, and the expansion of some 500 kV feeders at the Vung Ang, Doc Soi and Pleiku 2 500 kV substations. 

The projects will be implemented in about 20 months at total costs of over VND11.94 trillion (US$513.42 million). They are due for completion and operation by mid 2020.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said that Viet Nam currently has a total power capacity of around 48,000 MW. The demand is projected to increase by 90,000 MW in 2025 and reach 130,000 MW in the following five years, requiring the power sector to focus on developing power sources and upgrading and modernizing the power transmission network.

Once completed, these projects will help enhance the capacity of power transmission, contributing to regulating and ensuring enough electricity for production and life of people in the regions, especially in southern localities, he said.
