The Government chief cited the tourism statistics of neighboring countries to illustrate his point. For example, Singapore and Thailand expected to lure 16 million and 70 million visitors, respectively, this year while Viet Nam only attracted over 7 million last year though it possesses more tourism advantages.

“Why we can’t level the differences between us and Thailand, not to mention Malaysia, Singapore, or Indonesia.” Is it because of infrastructure, workforce, policies, aviation, or visa granting, PM Dung questioned.

He asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, and Ministry of Transport to review all relevant administrative procedures, put forward innovative policies to further facilitate the inflows of tourists.

In a broader view, PM Dung urged inferior levels to act more drastically and responsibily to perform their public duties. They must fully understand the root causes of shortcomings and weaknesses in order to find out proper solutions./.
