What VN should do to catch up with 4th industrial revolution

“We do not yet know just how it will unfold, but one thing is clear: the response to it must be integrated and comprehensive, involving all stakeholders of the global polity, from the public and private sectors to academia and civil society,” according to Klaus Schwab, who is Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum.

The revolution has been mentioned in a number of resolutions issued by the Vietnamese Political Bureau, said Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan at press conference following the Cabinet meeting on Monday.

He added that a latest report on the 4^th industrial revolution was introduced at the Cabinet meeting chaired by PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

To catch up with profound changes of the revolution, firstly, Viet Nam needs to accelerate information infrastructure development, giving priority to information and communication technology, said Mr. Tuan.

Secondly, the country needs to foster information technology application in management and operation of infrastructure of the whole economy, considering it as a top priority task in the process of industrializing and modernizing each sector and field.

Thirdly, it is necessary to develop value-added information and communication industry and actively join the global supply chain.

Fourthly, Viet Nam needs to review, amend and supplement related strategies and planning schemes to meet requirements of national-scale modernization and industrialization to secure inter-regional and inter-sector connectivity and synchronicity.

Fifthly, sound policies and measures should be developed to fully mobilize resources for infrastructure system development.

Sixthly, laws, mechanisms and policies should be further improved to create a favorable legal environment for technological application-development and infrastructure development as well.

Seventhly, Viet Nam should prioritize investments for developing high-quality human resources in a bid to strengthen technological access and application in favor of socio-economic development.

Eighthly, the capacity to master technologies and conduct research and development should be enhanced while innovations need extensive investments to produce competitive products and services.

Ninthly, improving the capacity and effectiveness of infrastructure system management and exploitation to meet information exchange needs, beef up socio-economic development, ensure information security and safety and national sovereignty in cyberspace.

Lastly, press agencies need to play a role in improving public awareness of the importance of the 4^th industrial revolution.

Mr. Tuan said the Government chief tasked the Ministry of Science and Technology to take prime responsibility and coordinate with the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Education and Training to design a plan to make sure that Viet Nam does not miss this revolution./.
