Weekly COVID-19 update: 1,640 new cases, 418 recoveries

VGP - There were 1,640 new COVID-19 cases and 418 recoveries from May 31 to June 6, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Weekly COVID-19 infections and recoveries in Viet Nam

Of the above total, there were 53 imported patients and 1,587 locally-transmitted cases.

The imported cases comprised three foreign experts who came from Russia (one) and China (two) and 50 Vietnamese nationals repatriated from Japan (three), the Philippines (two), or returning to Viet Nam via the southern provinces of Tay Ninh, Kien Giang, and An Giang.

During the past week, Viet Nam saw a record of 418 recovered patients, raising the total recoveries to 3,368 while the death toll rose by six to 53.

As of 6:00 pm on June 6, Viet Nam detected 7,191 local infections and 1,556 imported ones. The local infections include 5,621 domestically-transmitted cases since April 27 when the fourth wave of COVID-19 resurgence began.   

* Under a decree issued recently Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, 12 medical items were added to the list of national reserves including X-ray machines, ventilators, defibrillators, patient monitoring devices, ultrasound machines, suction machines, electric injection pumps, surgical kits, chemical sprayers, personal protection equipment, machines detecting chemical, biological and radioactive agents, and body bags.

* On June 3, the Ministry of Health reported that Viet Nam would have more than 120 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in 2021.

Deputy PM Le Van Thanh has asked the Ministry of Health to consider administering COVID-19 vaccines to foreign experts in Viet Nam, according to a notice of the Government’s Office.

* On June 5, Viet Nam’s national COVID-19 vaccine fund was launched at a ceremony in Ha Noi. The fund has received donations worth VND 1.036 trillion (US$45 million) in cash.

The nation needs 150 million doses of vaccines to administer about 75% of its population this year, with total cost amounting to VND 25.2 trillion./.
