The community infection cases were mainly recorded in Vinh Phuc (27 cases), Da Nang (35 cases), Ha Noi (63 cases), Bac Giang (37 cases), and the second facility of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ha Noi's Dong Anh District (44 cases).

The new infections took the national patient tally to 3,332, including 333 domestic cases since April 27.

Also in the past week, 53 patients were declared free of the virus, raising the total recoveries to 2,602. The death toll remains at 35.

Out of the 62 imported cases, five are foreign experts who came from Egypt (one), India (three) and Indonesia (one) while the rest are Vietnamese returnees.

Due to the surge of local infections, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 7 underlined that the highest priority is to fight COVID-19 and deal with its consequences in order to ensure the public’s health.

The Ministry of Health decided to extend mandatory quarantine period by one week to 21 days for those returning to Viet Nam or coming into close contact with COVID-19 patients.

On May 7, Viet Nam recorded first death from adverse reaction to AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine./.
