Weekly COVID-19 Update: VN Confirms 19 New Cases, 110 Recoveries

VGP - Viet Nam reported 19 new COVID-19 infection cases and 110 recoveries from March 22-28, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

March 29, 2021 11:46 AM GMT+7

The latest cases included only two locally-transmitted cases in Hai Duong province and 17 imported ones.

The imported cases include four foreign experts who came from India (one), China (one) and the Philippines (two), and 11 others are Vietnamese nationals who repatriated from the UAE, France, the U.S. Japan and returned home via Ha Tien Border Gate and Moc Bai International Border Gate.

Over the past week, Viet Nam documented four new cases who entered illegally the country through Phu Quoc island and Moc Bai border gate.

As of late March 28, Viet Nam confirmed 1,603 locally transmitted cases, including 910 cases since the resurgence of local infections from January 27.

The national COVID-19 tally stands at 2,591 with 2,308 recoveries and 35 fatalities.

In response to illegal immigration, the Ministry of Health tasked the local authorities of Hai Phong and HCMC to promptly trace people having close contacts with the illegal entrants and get their samples tested.

Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long underlined the need for border localities to strenthen border inspection and warned of the risk of a possible fourth wave of COVID-19 transmission while presiding over a meeting on March 26.

The Military Medical University under the Ministry of National Defence on March 25 began giving the second shots of the Nano Covax COVID-19 vaccine as part of the second human trial phase to 26 volunteers.

The first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX Facility cannot be delivered to Viet Nam as planned in late March as producers are expanding and optimizing production process. Some 811,200 doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine doses, fewer than the original plan of 1.1 million doses, are scheduled to arrive in the country next month./.
