The Government chief reiterated the point at a meeting on COVID-19 prevention and control on Monday afternoon.

Phuc spoke highly of the drastic measures employed by Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and other localities in implementing the social distancing rule introduced by the Government on March 31.

However, many people began to take to streets and some shops selling non-essential goods still remained open over the past days, Phuc said.

He warned that all the past achievements of the COVID-19 fight will disappear if the preventive measures are loosened, reaffirming that protection of public health is the supreme goal.

The PM repeated again the principle of locking all external transmission sources while promptly stamping out domestic coronavirus clusters.

He also agreed to allow export of medical face masks and protective gears to the countries hit hard by the pandemic on the condition of ensuring domestic reserves.

As of 6:10 pm on Monday, Viet Nam had 265 COVID-19 infection cases, of whom 145 have been cleared of the virus and released from hospitals while the current active cases are being treated at 14 medical facilities nationwide./.
