The preferential loan was worth of US $177 million, with which the WB wanted to support the further development of Việt Nam’s primary and higher education systems.

The School Education Quality Assurance Program was granted US $127 million credit from the WB, £17-million non-refundable aid from the UK Department for International Development (DFID), US $3 million assistance from Belgium, and US $26.9 million corresponding capital from the Vietnamese Government.

The program will be put under implementation in 35 cities and provinces nationwide during the period of 2009-15, targeting to better primary education quality and to support disadvantaged students.

The WB also supported US $50 million credit for the Higher Education Development Policy Program, allowing the Vietnamese Government to modernize its higher education sector for the national insdustrilization process.
