Accordingly, Vietnamese expatriates, their spouses and children are required to have passports or international travel papers that are valid for at least one year, submit identification papers to authorized agencies abroad and not subject to cases of entry and exit suspension regulated at Articles 21 and 28 of the Law on entry, exit and residence of foreigners in Viet Nam.

To enjoy visa exemption in Viet Nam, they have to submit files at overseas Vietnamese agencies which are in charge of granting visas.

Visa exemption papers are valid for a maximum of five years and shorter than the time of passports or international travel papers at least six months.

Visa exemption papers are attached into or issued separately from the passports.
