General Director of Internal Affairs Ngô Thế Việt revealed that Vinashin has saved VND 4.1 billion after two months of thrift practice and inflation curbing, including VND 2.3 billion from materials use, VND 800 million from energy use and nearly VND 1 billion from management costs.

Vinashin, in the first five months, gained a higher growth than the same period last year. Its total productivity reached VND 13.4 trillion, accounting for 31.18% of the year plan.

In 2008, the Corporation decided to focus its investment on 21 out of 70 member companies. Accordingly, it plans to pour VND 3,500 billion in 15 shipyards like Nam Triệu, Bạch Đằng and Hạ Long, three steel and ship engine factories, two vocational schools and the Shipping Science and Technology Institute. It also decides to cancel 49 projects worth of VND 6,500 billion.
