VNPT Vice Chairman Nguyễn Bá Thước said at the press conference that the launching of Vinasat-I is the confirmation of Việt Nam’s national sovereignty in the space.

With the transmission capacity for 10,000 internet/data bands or 120 television channels, Vinasat-I is a means for Việt Nam to expand telecommunication services to all corners throughout the country in order to promote socio-economic development, health care, and education.

The representative of the producer Lockheet Martin reported that Vinasat-I was made with the latest technology.

The contractor for the launching of the satellite is Arian Space, who had brought 250 trade satellites into the orbit.

Up to now, 16 domestic businesses have registered to exploit services through Vinasat-I.

Vinasat-I will be located in the orbit 1320E at the latitude of 35,768 km above the Earth. Vinasat-I is 4m high and weighs 1,600 kg. The total expenditure for the project is US $300 million.
