Vietnamese top legislator holds talks with Lao counterpart

The talks took place on the occasion of the official visit of Chairwoman Pany Yathotu from March 5-10.

The two top legislators praised the reciprocal visits of senior leaders as helping boost the bilateral ties in specific areas. They were unanimous in working together to effectively implement signed documents, programs, and plans.

Both sides agreed to maintain exchanges of delegations at all levels and share information to timely resolve emerging issues in the bilateral ties.

Chairwoman Ngan said that the Vietnamese National Assembly would cooperate with the Lao side to mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of the singing of the Bilateral Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

They agreed to hold an inauguration ceremony of Viet Nam-Lao historic revolutionary relic in Son La province this July with a view to educating young generations on the special relations between the two countries.

Both sides also vowed to shake hands more closely to support each other at international and regional forums, sub-regional mechanisms and ASEAN.

Chairwoman Pany Yathotu stressed that the Lao Party and State treasured Viet Nam’s support for the building of the Laos National Assembly’s Office and the special solidarity between the two countries which was nurtured by late President Ho Chi Minh and his Lao counterparts Kaysone Phomvihane and Souphanouvong.

After talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of cooperative agreements between the two National Assemblies in the 2017-2021 period; the National Assembly Offices in the next five years./.
