Vietnamese passenger die on repatriation flight from the US

VGP – A Vietnamese citizen has died on a repatriation flight from the US, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The passenger, born in 1947, made a fall after using lavatory. The crew members gave him first aid and asking for help from doctors onboard the flight departing on July from San Francisco international airport.

Unfortunately, the passenger died before the plane landed at Van Don international airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh on Thursday.

The repatriation flight carried nearly 350 Vietnamese citizens home thanks to the joint efforts of Vietnamese authorities, representative agencies and national flag carrier Viet Nam Airlines in collaboration with the US authorities.

The passengers included children aged below 18, the sick, the elderly, pregnant women, and students without residences due to closure of domitories.

Upon arrival, they were placed under mandatory quarantine in line with the nation’s current regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control.

This is the 43rd repatriation flight arranged since April 24, bringing home about 12,046 Vietnamese citizens stranded abroad due to COVID-19.

As of July 16, Viet Nam has gone 91 days without new community-transmitted case of COVID-19 and 353 out of the total 381 patients have been cleared of the virus, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control./.
