Vietnamese candidate for UNESCO General-Director presents action plan

VGP - Assistant to Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Special Envoy of the PM on UNESCO issues Pham Sanh Chau presented an action plan as a candidate for the UNESCO Director-General post.

Assistant to Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Sanh Chau

Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau and other eight candidates presented their action programs for the position of General Manager of Educational Institutions, Science and Culture of the United Nations (UNESCO) in Paris (France) on April 26-27.

Mr. Chau voiced three key messages on UNESCO’s visions in favor of effective operation.

Firstly, UNESCO should continue its peaceful mission as it was recognized by the UNESCO Charter. Secondly, UNESCO should continue to implement the reform towards a more efficient and dynamic operation and affirm its position in UN organizations. Thirdly, UNESCO should strengthen communication work so that the world would understand that the organization not only takes care of cultural and educational issues but also natural  and social sciences.  

Mr. Chau was born in 1961 and is a diplomat and an educator in Viet Nam.

Born into a diplomatic family, Pham Sanh Chau inherited the family tradition and cultural background in Viet Nam. He was trained in Viet Nam and many European countries. He is fluent in English and French.

Since November 14, 2016, he has been the Assistant Foreign Minister and served as Special Envoy of the PM on UNESCO issues./.
