Vietnamese and Cambodian top legislators hold talks

VGP - Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly Heng Samrin and Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held talks in Phnom Penh on September 27 to beef up the bilateral ties.

Chairman Samdech Heng Samrin warmly welcomed the official visit of the guest leader which presented a vivid evidence for the bilateral solidarity and friendship.

He congratulated Ms. Ngan for being elected as the head of Viet Nam’s NA.

The two leaders took the occasion to brief each other about respective socio-economic performance and legislative operation; acknowledging the necessity to share solidarity, friendship, and promote comprehensive ties.  

The two leaders expressed their satisfaction over the economic co-operation, trade and investment between the two countries at all levels.

So far, Vietnamese enterprises have invested in 182 projects in Cambodia with a total registered capital of US$ 2.85 billion on such areas as agro-forestry sector, energy, finance, banking, insurance, and telecom.

They agreed to continue promoting the role of supervising the implementation of agreements reached between the two governments and continue to share, support and consult with each other on international issues of mutual interest and to enhance close cooperation in inter-parliamentary forums and regional parliaments.  

NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan affirmed Viet Nam’s consistency in attaching importance and top priority for the consolidation and strengthening of good neighborliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive co-operation with Cambodia.

Ngan asked the NA and parliamentarians of Cambodia to continue fostering the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

She thanked the NA and the Government of Cambodia for facilitating the Vietnamese community in Cambodia./.
