During the meeting, Ambassador Quy said Viet Nam is striving to become an active and responsible member of the UN and affirmed that the country will make the best preparations to send more personnel to peacekeeping forces and missions of the UN in the time to come.

Mr. Quy affirmed that the relations with the UN will always remain a priority in Viet Nam’s foreign policy in the years to come, with the upcoming trips of high-ranking leaders to the UN, notably President Tran Dai Quang’s visit to attend the high-level meeting of the 73rd UN General Assembly in New York in September.

Ambassador Quy conveyed senior leaders’ invitation to visit Viet Nam to the UN Secretary General

For his part, the UN chief lauded Viet Nam’s cooperation with the UN in many fields and stressed that Viet Nam was the first nation chosen by the UN to implement the Millennium Development Goals and the Delivering as One initiative.

He noted the country’s efficient contributions to the implementation of the Universal Periodic Review Progress Report on human rights in 2014.

Regarding peace and security, Guterres vowed to continue supporting the efforts and voiced his hope that Viet Nam will take an active part in the peacekeeping forces of the UN.

He assured that Viet Nam and the Ambassador will continue to enjoy active cooperation and help from the UN in general and himself in particular.
