Vietnamese Party leader receives US Communist Party Chairman

VNGOVNet – In the afternoon of December 11, at the Vietnamese Communist Party Central Committee’s Head Office, Party General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh had a cordial reception and talks with a high-ranking delegation of the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA) led by Party Chairman Sam Webb on their friendly visit to Vietnam.

Chairman Sam Webb showed his pleasure to make his first visit to Vietnam and his good impression on Vietnam’s increasingly dynamic and rapid economic development. He said that Vietnam’s achievements and experience have an international significance to the forces struggling for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress. Mr. Sam Webb also affirmed that the CPUSA will go on with their support to Vietnam’s revolutionary cause and the friendly and cooperative ties between the two peoples and States. The CPUSA will demand that the US government show their responsibility in dealing with consequences of the Vietnam War.

 

General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh expressed his gratitude to the friendly sentiment and support from the American communists and progressive people to Vietnam’s struggle for national salvation in the past as well as the cause of national construction and protection today. He affirmed that Vietnam will consistently adopt its foreign policy of closing the past and looking towards the future in treating the US, and together promoting bilateral cooperation in the spirit of constructive friendship, long-term stability, mutual respect, non-interference into each other’s internal affairs, equality and common benefits.
