Vietnamese, Indian PMs pledge mutual support on COVID-19 fight

VGP – Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Indian Narendra Modi agreed that both countries will step up cooperation and mutual assistance in repelling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The agreement was reached during the pair’s phone conversation on Saturday.

Pham suggested the Government of India help Viet Nam to access vaccine sources via different channels and as soon as possible, cooperate with Viet Nam in transfer of production technology, and facilitate vaccine supply to the Southeast Asian country.

In reply, Indian PM Modi welcomed Pham’s suggestion, saying he stands ready to cooperate closely with Viet Nam over the issue.

Both sides also agreed to promote the role of the existing consultation and dialogue mechanisms while expanding cooperation in defense industry, UN-led peacekeeping operations, and responding to traditional and non-traditional security challenges.

The two PMs pledged to double efforts to soon realize the trade goal of US$15 billion through enhancing trade promotion and reducing technical barriers. PM Pham called on Indian investors to boost investment in manufacturing, processing, information and communication technology, and renewable energy in Viet Nam.

They committed to strengthening mutual support and coordination at regional and international forums, especially the UN as both countries are current non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.

The two PMs underlined the significance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation, settling disputes peacefully on the basis of international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea./.
