Vietnamese FM meets busy on AMM sidelines

VGP – Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on Friday met with top Philippine, Malaysian, and Indonesian diplomats on the sidelines of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in the Philippines.

Both Minh and Philippines’ Acting FM Enirque Manalo spoke highly of the long-lasting relations and close cooperation between the two countries.

They agreed to foster high-level visits and maritime issues cooperation, including anti-piracy.

Minh and Malaysian FM Anifa Aman discussed measures to accelerate the two countries’ ties, including the deployment of the agreements signed by both sides.

Minh also asked Malaysia to ensure the legitimate interests of Ms. Doan Thi Huong, a Vietnamese suspect in the death of a citizen of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Minh and Indonesian FM Retno Marsudi agreed to boost high-level visits and talks on exclusive economic zone demarcation.

Both sides agreed to effectively implement results reached at the 7th meeting of the Viet Nam-Indonesia Joint Bilateral Cooperation Committee in a bid to raise the two-way trade value to US$10 billion by 2018.

During the aforesaid meetings, the diplomats also agreed to further enhance cooperation to maintain ASEAN’s centrality and solidarity well as peace and stability in the East Sea.

They stressed the need to continue close collaboration within ASEAN to ensure the quality and feasibility of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea.
