Vietnamese, Chilean Presidents co-chair press conference

State President Tran Dai Quang emphasized that leaders and people of Viet Nam have never forgotten the solidarity and valuable support of President Michelle Bachelet. 

The second State visit of President Michelle Bachelet to Viet Nam marked the 40-year long path in which President Michelle Bachelet has strong attachment to Viet Nam and made important contribution to the friendly and cooperative ties between Viet Nam and Chile.

The two leaders expressed their delight to witness the positive developments in the Viet Nam-Chile friendship and cooperative cooperation. The political relations have become more closer and more confident following exchanges of delegations at all levels. The Party, parliament, and people-to-people relations have been consolidated.  

State President Quang informed that the two leaders discussed and agreed measures to cement and deepen the comprehensive ties especially in such domains  as politics-diplomacy, economics-trade, and investment; prioritize respective and supplementary potentials and strengths especially in agro-forestry production, building, biology, mining, climate change response, culture, science-technology, education-training, and tourism. 

State President Quang hailed the signing of cooperative documents on diplomatic field; expressed the gratitude to his Chilean counterpart and the Chilean Government for accelerating the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on child care especially children who are Agent Orange victims in Viet Nam. 

Mr. Quang treasured President Michelle Bachelet and the Chilean Government's early support for Viet Nam to run for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council in the 2020-2021 term and organization of the APEC 2017 in general and the 25th APEC Summit Week in Da Nang in particular. 

State President Quang revealed that the two leaders took the occasion to discuss regional and international issues of common concern; share the stance of peaceful solutions to sovereignty disputes on the basis of international law. 

For her part, President Michelle Bachelet expressed the honor to pay the second State visit to Viet Nam and treasured the warm and sincere welcome of the State and people of Viet Nam for the delegation. 

The Chilean President also showed her admiration of Vietnamese people who have overcome difficulties to build the country prosperously in the Southeast Asian region. 

The President took the occasion to extend a sympathy to the State and people of Viet Nam for the huge losses  of lives and properties from  storm Damrey in the Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions; affirming that Chile stands ready to cooperate and share difficulties with Viet Nam to surmount the serious consequences. 

The Chilean President asserted the significance of the Bilateral Free Trade Agreement which took effect in 2014, thus contributing to spurring trade and converting Viet Nam into a large trading partner of Chile. 

Earlier, both Presidents Tran Dai Quang and Michelle Bachelet signed the Viet Nam-Chile joint statement./.
