The VNDFA became the 54th member of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO). The congress also elected Nguyễn Thị Hồng Minh, former Deputy Fisheries Minister, to be President of the association, and a 23-member executive board.

During its first tenure lasting from now until 2012, the association will focus on promoting the Viet Nam-Denmark friendship by hosting events to mark the two countries' holidays. Besides, it will help the two countries' businesses to seek partners and develop trade ties.
The association will also focus on developing its chapters in localities nationwide and organizing socio-cultural, educational and training activities. Furthermore, it will expand its cooperation with Denmark's non-governmental organizations to help disadvantaged people in Vietnam.

Vietnam and Denmark established their diplomatic ties on November 25, 1971. Since then, Denmark has always supported and assisted Vietnam in the struggle for national salvation and national construction as well. At present, with 38 projects invested by 60 businesses in Vietnam worth of nearly US$ 194 million, Denmark ranks 25th among 74 investor-countries/territories in Vietnam. These projects not only contribute to the development of industries and services but also to the improved management, technological transfer, and human resource development in Vietnam in various fields. The investment from Denmark is expected to increase to US$ 1 billion per year in the time to come.
