Viet Nam seeks RoK’s continued vaccine supplies via COVAX

VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested the Republic of Korea (RoK) continue providing vaccines to Viet Nam via the COVAX Facility.

Pham made the suggestion during his phone conversation with RoK counterpart Kim Boo-kyum on Thursday.

He also suggested that the Northeast Asian country, in its capacity, share its vaccine resources to help Viet Nam realize its vaccination strategy.

The two PMs agreed to direct relevant agencies to share experience and coordinate closely in research and transfer of production technology and vaccinate foreign citizens, including Vietnamese and Korean living and working in each other country.

Both sides pledged to work closely and maintain contacts at all levels to foster bilateral cooperation across fields and people-to-people exchanges. They also agreed to conduct regular exchanges over key issues in the bilateral ties in the near future.

They agreed on a number of concrete measures to soon realize the two-way trade goal of US$100 billion in a baanced manner, including facilitating export of key Vietnamese goods such as seasonal fruits and aquatic products to the RoK, and creating favorable conditions for Korean to expand investment in Viet Nam.

The pair also agreed to effectively maintain bilateral labor cooperation, make it easier for the Vietnamese in the RoK and the Koreans in Vet Nam to have a stable and safe life, especially in the current pandemic time, and accelerate several national defense-security projects.

On regional and international issues of shared concerns, the pair committed to strengthening cooperation at multi-lateral forums.

Regarding the East Sea issue, they shared the common viewpoint of ensuring security, maritime safety and freedom in the East Sea, maintaining a peaceful and sustainable environment, and settling disputes through peaceful measures in line with the international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

They stressed the importance of realizing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) practically and efficiently and early completing an effective and practical Code of Conduct (COC) on the East Sea.
