Head of the General Department of Preventative Medicine under the Ministry of Health Dang Quang Tan

Tan made the above statement at a teleconference on COVID-19 prevention and control work held on February 19.

These four COVID-19 variants found in Viet Nam are:

+D614G variant from the Europe (found in Da Nang City)

+UK COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7 (detected in Hai Duong)

+B. 1.351 first seen in South Africa (uncovered on patient 1422 returning from South Africa on December 19, 2020).

+A.23.1 from Rwanda, Africa (identified in some COVID-19 patients who work for Viet Nam Airport Ground Services Co., Ltd (VIAGS) located in Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City).

Since February 27, Viet Nam has recorded 770 new community infection cases of COVID-19, including 600 in Hai Duong Province.

This means the number of coronavirus patients in Hai Duong Province is higher than that in the central city of Da Nang when the latter experienced an outbreak last year (389 cases), Tan said, adding that the average number of patients uncovered in Hai Duong in the first 20 days is also higher than in Da Nang City.

The outbreak in Hai Duong Province occurred at industrial parks, thus the situation remains complicated, he stressed.
