Viet Nam attaches importance ties with Cambodia: PM

VGP – Viet Nam always treasures and prioritizes developing its comprehensive cooperation and friendship with Cambodia, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc during his reception for visiting President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin in Ha Noi on May 29.

The Government leader expressed his belief that the visit would achieve significant outcomes, contributing to unceasingly strengthening the fine neighborliness, traditional friendship, and sustainable long-term all-around cooperation between the two countries.

The Vietnamese Government agencies will work closely with legislative bodies to effectively implement the agreements reached by the two countries’ parliaments, he said, urging the Cambodian legislature to support the enhancement of win-win cooperation between the two countries across spheres, towards raising the bilateral trade to over US$5 billion by 2020.

PM Phuc thanked the Cambodian State for facilitating overseas Vietnamese in the country, while extending his gratitude to Cambodian PM Hun Sen for his timely directions in supporting the evacuation of Vietnamese people from Tonle Sap in Kampong Chhnang province. He asked Cambodia to provide favorable conditions in terms of legal papers for them and appropriately handle the replacement.

Regarding border issues, the Vietnamese PM expressed his delight to see that the two countries have finalized 84% of land border demarcation and marker planting between the two sides.

Viet Nam stands ready to support and coordinate with Cambodia in maintaining and promoting solidarity and common stance of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), to which both countries are members, contributing to common peace and prosperity in the region, he affirmed.

For his part, Heng Samrin stated that the Vietnamese and Cambodian legislatures always support and closely coordinate on both bilateral and international platforms.  

The Cambodian National Assembly spoke highly of the outcomes attained by both sides in border demarcation and marker planting, he said, suggesting the two Governments accelerate the work to build a shared borderline of peace, stability, cooperation and development, becoming an invaluable asset for their future generations./.
