Viet Nam approves emergency use of UAE-made Hayat-Vax vaccine
VGP – The Ministry of Health said on Friday that it has approved the emergency use of the Hayat-Vax COVID-19 vaccine manufactured in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Hayat-Vax vaccine is an inactivated vaccine, produced by growing the SARS-CoV-2 in cell culture and then using chemicals to inactivate the virus.
Up to 99% of people taking the Hayat-Vax vaccine shots have developed antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The vaccine has also helped prevent moderate and severe cases in vaccinated people.
The ministry's move comes after Vimedimex Medical and Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company sent a request to the Prime Minister consider, approve and direct the Ministry of Health to appraise its dossier concerning approving Hayat-Vax for emergency use in Viet Nam.
Hayat-Vax becomes the seventh foreign COVID-19 vaccine that has obtained a license for emergency use in Viet Nam, after UK’s AstraZeneca, China’s Sinopharm, Russia’s Sputnik, and three U.S. vaccines including Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
To date, Viet Nam has received 33.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, accounting for 20 percent of the demand for the national vaccination plan, said the Ministry of Health.
The Southeast Asian country has administered 24,781,185 doses, with 4,189,782 fully vaccinated people./.
