The opening of the HUST - Naver AI Center, the first of its kind in Viet Nam

The center was founded under the model of a mixed international research center which is jointly invested and run by HUST and Naver Group from the Republic of Korea.

It will assist with basic research studies on the creation of “Make-in-Viet Nam” technologies, and the application of AI in various sectors so as to speed up digital transformation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution in the Southeast Asian country.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ta Hai Tung, Director of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology under HUST was quoted as saying that in the long run, the AI Center will serve as a platform to connect domestic and international AI operators to deploy basic research.

Initially, the center recruited over 50 scientists from the HUST and other experts from universities, institutes and technology groups in the areas related to AI and AI application under the lead of Professor Ho Tu Bao.

The establishment of the first AI center is part of the National Strategy on AI research, development, and application by 2030.

Under the strategy, Viet Nam expects to become a center for innovation and development of AI solutions and applications in the Southeast Asian region and the world in the next decade.

The country aims to build 10 AI brands of high prestige in the region, develop three national centers on big data and high performance computing, and connect big data and high performance computing centers nationwide into a network and form 50 open datasets in all socio-economic fields to better serve AI research, development and application.

The nation will set up three national innovative centers on AI, and have at least one representative in the list of ASEAN’s 20 leading R&D and training facilities in this sphere./.
