The event aims to create a platform for participants to share experience and exchange information on policy building; and new technologies, products, equipment and materials to develop energy-efficient buildings.

The organization of the event is a vivid illustration for Viet Nam’s efforts to realize international commitments to climate change response and sustainable development.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Quang Hung said that the event has marked the construction sector’s efforts in using energy economically and effectively, making contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, minimizing the impacts of climate change towards sustainable development.

Viet Nam’s commitments have been translated into a number of policies such as Viet Nam National Green Growth Strategy, a national program on effective use of energy during 2019-2030 and the Politburo’s Decision No.55-NQ/TW on orientations of a national energy development strategy by 2030 with a vision until 2045, he added.

UNDP’s demonstration projects on application of energy efficient solutions in new and existing buildings has resulted in potential energy savings between 25% - 67% per building, at an incremental cost of about 0% - 3% of the total investment cost per building and the maximum payback period of 05 years.

Meanwhile, according to the Viet Nam Green Buildings Council, by the end of 2019, only 70 construction works were granted with green building certificates in Viet Nam.
