Vice State President attends Indonesian leaders’ inauguration ceremony

VGP – Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh joined the world’s leaders at the inauguration of Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin for 2019-2024 tenure, in Jakarta Indonesia on October 20.

Following the ceremony, Vice State President Thinh had separate meetings with President  Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, during which Thinh conveyed letters of congratulations from Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to President Joko Widodo.

In their congratulatory letters, the Vietnamese leaders expressed their belief that the Indonesian Government will gain greater achievements towards realization of its Vision 2045 with the aim of turning Indonesia into one of the world’s top five economies.

President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin extended sincere thanks to Thinh for having attended the inauguration ceremony.

The host leaders congratulated on Viet Nam’s socio-economic development and international integration achievements over the past time, especially its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021 tenure and assumption of the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020.

Both sides were pleased with strong growth of the Viet Nam-Indonesia strategic partnership and spoke highly of the sides’ efforts in implementing their action plan for 2019-2020 period.

They agreed to coordinate in organizing activities to mark the 60th anniversary of historic visits by President Sukarno to Viet Nam and President Ho Chi Minh to Indonesia (1959) and to celebrate the 65th founding anniversary of the bilateral ties (December 30, 2020).

Vice President Thinh suggested the two countries should continue striving to soon realize trade goal of US$10 billion while expanding cooperation in agriculture, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges among others.

She also suggested the two countries work together to prevent illegal fishing and satisfactorily settle issues related to fishermen in a friendly and humanitarian spirit.

Regarding regional and international issues of common concerns, the two sides underlined the importance of peace and stability to security and development in each nation and the ASEAN Community as well.

Both sides agreed to continue close coordination at multilateral forums, particularly when Viet Nam undertakes the double role as the ASEAN Chair and non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.

Vice President Thinh took the occasion to highly value Indonesia’s increasingly important role in the region and the world.

For the recent developments in the East Sea, Thinh asked the Indonesian side to continue backing Viet Nam’s legitimate stance and objecting to violations of sovereignty and international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

She also called on Indonesia to accelerate full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and negotiations to reach an effective and practical Code of Conduct on the East Sea in line with international law./.
