VGP – The Prime Minister has approved the adjustment of a master plan on the construction of the Van Don Economic Zone in the northern province of Quang Ninh until 2040.

Van Don is a mountainous island district located in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh. It is home to more than 600 islands, islets, with a natural land area of over 581 sq.km. Its sea area spreads nearly 1,600 sq.km.
Accordingly, the development structure of the zone will be divided into two main regions of Cai Bau island and Van Hai islands.
The economic zone will be transformed into a smart, modern and green coastal urban area, as well as the region’s economic and cultural hub.
The population size will increase to 140,000-200,000 by 2030, and 300,000-500,000 by 2040.
Quang Ninh is zoning off Van Don as a high-quality administrative-economic special zone with a long-term and broad vision.
In addition, it will become a gateway for international trade, and a green, modern, smart and sustainable urban area with an important position in terms of security and national defense.
Van Don also targets to be capable of creating unique, distinctive and modern products with high quality, brands and international competitiveness.
Under the plan, the Van Don Economic Zone will cover the whole natural area of Van Don district, more than 2,171 square meters, including 581.83 square meters of natural land area and approximately 1,590 square meters of the sea area.
The Van Don Economic Zone is calling for investment in a number of projects concerning the construction of tourist areas, urban areas, and trade and services areas; the construction and trading of industrial park infrastructure; the construction and exploitation of stations, bus terminals and wharves in service of tourism; the construction and exploitation of marine tourist areas; the embellishment, upgrading and building of some urban transport routes; and housing development.
The Prime Minister has assigned the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee to coordinate with the Ministry of Construction to publicly announce the adjustment diagram of the Van Don economic zone construction master plan until 2040./.
