VN’s tourism sector ready to leapfrog opportunities

Welcoming visitors from countries and territories that have properly contained the disease

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that together with the promotion of the campaign encouraging Vietnamese people to travel to domestic destinations to stimulate domestic tourism, the tourism industry has prepared plans and now stands ready to welcome international visitors at an appropriate time.

Simultaneously, the sector will accelerate communications advertising Viet Nam as a safe tourism destination to the world, considering this a highlight and an advantage to improve Viet Nam’s tourism destination competitiveness at the present time.

Until now, when the disease has been well controlled in Viet Nam, national flag carrier Viet Nam Airlines has resumed all domestic flights with more than 300 flights per day.

Given the positive signals of domestic tourism, the carrier has introduced scenarios to restore international routes based on the disease control situation in countries as well as the permission from their governments.

“Currently, the airline has resumed the operation of routes carrying passenger from Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City to Seoul with five one-way flights per week, and the figure is expected to increase to 14 flights per week from July 2020 to take passengers from Viet Nam to the Republic of Korea. We are also ready to exploit the markets of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia and ASEAN countries as soon as getting the green light from the Government,” a representative of Viet Nam Airlines said.

Preparing well conditions to welcome tourists

Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam emphasized that Viet Nam has been prepared but only opens the door when it is really safe.

He asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Viet Nam Tourism Association and travel companies to closely monitor the pandemic prevention and control situation in major markets.

The deputy PM suggested choosing the really safe areas and markets when conditions permit, selecting a number of destinations in Viet Nam in advance, and applying a strict process from allowing entry, transporting and managing visitors by tour.

Highlighting the safety criteria when restarting the international tourism market, a representative of the Viet Nam Tourism Advisory Board (TAB) said that international tourists will return to Viet Nam provided that the country ensures the safety criteria.

This also helps domestic people to eliminate the risk of COVID-19 infection through the community.
