VN’s most modern road tunnel opens to traffic

VGP - The road tunnel at the Kim Liên intersection in Hà Nội, the most modern of its kind in Việt Nam, was opened to traffic on June 16.

June 16, 2009 5:00 PM GMT+7

The Japanese Ambassador and the city’s leader cut the ribbon to inaugurate the tunnel

The tunnel, part of Belt Road 1 in Hà Nội, has a reinforced concrete structure with a length of 140m and 450-m-long walls.

It was constructed by Japanese contractor Taisei under the supervision of the Japan Bridge & Structure Institute.

The tunnel is part of the Japan-funded ODA project worth of US $130 million signed in 1999. The construction of this tunnel and other traffic works in Hà Nội helps to clear the city’s transport bottlenecks.

Part of the tunnel from Đại Cồ Việt Street to Đào Duy Anh opens to the traffic

Japan has prioritized assisting Hà Nội in implementing projects on transport development, traffic safety, urban infrastructure, drainage, environment, healthcare and post-graduate education.
