VN’s construction sector helps to form advanced urban network

Mobilizing all sources of capital for urban expansion

Over the last 50 years of its development (April 29, 1958-April 29, 2008), the construction sector has helped to design the overall planning schemes for almost all cities and provinces. Construction plans have been made for 94 cities, 621 towns, and 161 industrial zones.

In city areas, the number of housing projects has been rising rapidly to 1,500 ones. It is estimated that 58 million m2 of housing have been yearly put in use. There are about 890 million m2 of house throughout the country, including 260 million m2 in urban areas.

The Ministry has proactively expanded urban infrastructure. Over 300 projects on clean water supplies have been realized, reaching the overall designed capacity of 4.2 million m3 per day and night. 70% of city-dwellers have access to clean water with a daily average of 70 liters per capita. The total sum of investment in this field was appropriately US $1 billion.

These above achievements are resulted from reasonable legal documents. The Laws on Construction and on Housing and Real Estate have come into effect, paving the way for stimulating investment and consumption of real estate products and houses, forming and expanding the real estate market.

The MoC also revealed that it is proactively preparing for the Plan which will be submitted to the National Assembly in May on a hot issue - Hà Nội’s administrative expansion.

The Ministry has established a work-team in charge of designing the overall planning for the expanded Hà Nội. And foreign consultants will be selected in June.

According to the MoC, the growth rate of building material industry is over 17% per year. The sector is striving to achieve an export turnover of building materials about 30-35% compared to the domestic production value in 2010. Since 2001, the sector has obtained a growth rate of 16.5% per year.
