VN's Biogas Project wins global energy prize 2006

VNGOP – The Project on Biogas Program in Husbandry in Vietnam (Vietnam Biogas Project) was awarded with the Global Energy Prize 2006 in Brussel (Belgium) on April 12.

Vietnam Biogas Project was praised very effective in creating a cheap and convenient energy, partly contributing to the reduced use of fossil fuels and the environment protection as well. Under a cooperation program with the Dutch Government, from 2003 to 2006, the Project was carried out in 27,000 households in 24 provinces throughout Vietnam. It will be popularized in the time to come. This is one of the most typical projects nominated among 700 ones from different countries.

The Global Energy Prizes cover five fields: air, soil, water, fire and young generation. The prizes in air, water, fire and young generation fields were granted respectively to the projects on drying fruits with solar power (Kenya); on filtering water with X-tech synthetic fibers (US); on solar house (India); and on environment-friendly house (South Africa). A special prize was also awarded to the Project on recycled energy house (Belgium).
