Boosting up VN-US relations towards the framework of constructive partnership

The official visit by Vietnamese PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng takes place in the context that Việt Nam keeps scoring significant achievements in accelerating socio-economic growth, maintaining political stability, broadening regional and global integration and ranking higher position in the international area.

So far, the Việt Nam-US relations have been being developed within the framework of constructive partnership, friendship, cooperation for mutual benefits. Since 2000, the two countries inked numerous important economic agreements, such as the Bilateral Trade Agreement - BTA (July 2000), the Việt Nam-US Textile Agreement (May 2003), particularly, the U.S. Congress granted the Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) for Việt Nam on December 9, 2006 and Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) on June 21, 2007. Right after the BTA came into effect, the bilateral trade tie has experienced rapid surge,  reaching US $7.8 billion in 2005 and increasing five times against 2001 (US $1.5 billion). The US represents the biggest export market of Việt Nam.

The bilateral relations in terms of science and technology, culture, education and training, healthcare and labor are also enjoying positive outcome.

Keeping up Việt Nam’s diplomatic policy of openness, diversification and multilateralization

The offical visit made by the Vietnnamese PM  to the US targets to implement  Việt Nam’s foreign policy of openness, diversification and multilateralization with the international community including the United States. Through the up-coming exchange of views, talks and disscussions with American leaders and the business community, the visit targets to cement and deepen the friendly, multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefits, particularly such fields as economy, trade, investment, education and training, science and technology, and environment, overcome the aftermath of the war, exchange views on the regional and international issues of common concern, contribute to regional and globle peace and stability.
