They are the key areas of the Ireland’s cooperation strategy with Viet Nam for the period 2017-2020, announced by Irish Minister for Education and Skills at his meeting with Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh in Ha Noi on Friday.

The Irish Minister also announced that the Government of Ireland pledges to provide €7.5 million/year in official development assistance to Viet Nam in the same period to support poverty reduction, human resource development and realization of United Nations-led sustainable development goals.

Richard said the two countries have signed a number of cooperative documents during his ongoing visit to Viet Nam.

Deputy PM Minh expressed his thanks to the Irish Government and people for regarding Viet Nam as a priority partner in its development cooperation policy.

He highlighted that Ireland-funded projects have been effectively carried out in Viet Nam, making remarkable contribution to socioeconomic development in the Southeast Asian country.

He suggested the Irish Government consider increasing more scholarships for Vietnamese students, support English teaching, and share its experiences in education quality accreditation.

Deputy PM Minh also asked the Irish Ministry for Education and Skills to coordinate with the Vietnamese ministries, agencies, localities and businesses to deploy projects in such potential areas as high-tech agriculture, aviation, wind power, information and communication technology.

The bilateral trade turnover has sharply increased over the recent years, reaching US$1.14 billion in 2016 and US$1.1 billion in the first nine months of 2017./.
