The deputy PM expressed his pleasure at the socio-economic development achievements that China as a whole, and Chongqing in particular, has attained in 2017 and in the first months of 2018.

He suggested that Chongqing and Vietnamese localities accelerate the exchange of all-level delegations; share experience in socio-economic development; facilitate economic, trade and investment cooperation; and expand the imports of Vietnamese goods, especially the agro-forestry and fishery products, contributing to boosting two-way trade between the two countries in a balanced and sustainable manner.

The two sides should organize various people-to-people exchange activities, especially between their young people, while strengthening the cultural and tourism promotion activities, contributing to building a good social foundation for bilateral cooperation.

For his part, Liu Guiping affirmed that Chongqing treasures friendly ties with Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities, and is willing to join Vietnamese localities in implementing the common perceptions reached by the two countries’ senior leaders, and enhancing friendly exchanges, contributing to enhancing the Viet Nam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Over the past few years, Viet Nam-China cooperative relations have recorded new developments in the fields of economic, trade, investment and tourism, with two-way trade reaching US$93.7 billion in 2017, up 30.2% year on year, and the trade deficit with China decreasing 18.9% by US$22.8 billion.

China continues to be the largest trade and tourism partner of Viet Nam, while Viet Nam remains the largest trade partner of China in the ASEAN region.

Regarding Chongqing alone, the import-export revenue between the two sides hit approximately US$2 billion last year, accounting for 2% of the total trade revenues between the two countries, with Viet Nam enjoying a trade surplus of nearly US$1 billion against the Chinese city.
