VN wants to expand Internet coverage to all schools next year

The school year 2008-2009 is entitled “The year for IT application” in order to make a breakthrough in speeding up IT application in education and training activities. Accordingly, all educational establishments nationwide will be Internet-connected to be able to approach information services, Internet application, digital educational information, and online training technology.

Viettel and Google - two sponsors for the e-learning program in Việt Nam

To put the plan into reality, MoET contracted with Viettel, a domestic telecommunications giant, for implementing the nationwide educational network. Under the plan, all schools will be provided with high-quality Internet services at preferential prices. Additionally, the Ministry will be linked with educational establishments through a 4-Mbps optical-cable system. MoET is promptly establishing an e-database, teaching software, and online teacher recruitment.

It is expected that, starting from 2008-2009, the e-database will be disseminated to all schools for free.

Google pledged to create free of change email accounts for every teacher and student. It is said that, Google's commitment helps Việt Nam save around US $500 million.

MoET ordered its inferiors to establish email accounts for all high-school students to facilitate their examination registration and guidance.

Nevertheless, there remain quite a lot of schools (over 11,000) failing to join the Internet, which is the biggest obstacle for the project.
