The deputy PM made the statement during his reception for Jan Rielaender, head of the Multidimensional Country Reviews (MDCRs) at the Organization of Economic Cooperation Development (OECD) on February 26, on the sidelines of the seminar “Multidimensional Review of Viet Nam” in Ha Noi on the same morning.

“Viet Nam’s future strategy is to achieve the goal of becoming a modern industrial country, or a developed country, and we want to know the world’s views on this issue. This is the key towards determining the connotations of the National Development Strategy,” the official stated.

In this process, Viet Nam has already had the Viet Nam 2035 Report built with the support from the World Bank, he said, adding that the Government and the Prime Minister have mobilized the entire Viet Nam Innovation Network to focus on studying, while ordering 48 specific tasks for domestic and international universities, research centers, ministries, agencies and localities.

Deputy PM Hue noted that Viet Nam is finalizing a strategy for foreign investment attraction and reviewing 15 years of the development of the collective economy, and has successfully implemented strategies on agriculture, rural areas and farmers.

A new issue raised by professors from the U.S.’s Harvard University to Viet Nam is that the building of a specific strategy for urban and industrial development to create a development driving force for the country needs to be clearly identified in the master national development strategy, he said.

Therefore, the deputy PM expressed his expectation and belief in the OECD’s upcoming multidimensional assessment results over Viet Nam.

For his part, Jan Rielaender, who is working with the Vietnamese agencies to develop a Viet Nam development strategy, said he highly appreciated Viet Nam’s desires towards 2035, with a vision to 2045.

The expert stated that the purpose of strategies and policies is to improve the capabilities of the Vietnamese business community in the context of strong technological development.
