“As a country having undergone wars, Viet Nam and its people have understood better and treasured the value of peace more than anyone else, hence Viet Nam desires and is trying its best to make contributions to the process of peace, reconciliation and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula,” Hang told reporters at the International Media Centre (IMC).

The selection of Viet Nam as the host of the second DPRK-USA Summit showed the trust of the two nations and the international community in Viet Nam as well as its improved position and role in the region and the world, she stressed.

Viet Nam considers the hosting of the second DPRK-USA Summit as a golden chance to promote Viet Nam’s foreign policy, development and reform achievements, as well as its image as a friendly country, a safe destination and a reliable partner with a lot of potential for economic, investment and tourism cooperation, the spokeswoman said.

Regarding the organization of the second DPRK-USA Summit, Hang said Viet Nam also studied Singapore’s experiences in hosting the first event, but more importantly Viet Nam has its own experiences in holding major international events such as the APEC Year 2017 with the participation of 21 economies, including world powers, and the World Economic Forum on ASEAN 2018 (WEF ASEAN 2018).

“We have valuable experiences. We are confident in our ability and especially, we have the will, determination and great efforts – that are the national strength and the good tradition of Viet Nam,” she emphasized.

However, Viet Nam has also faced a wide range of challenges in terms of preparation time and demands for the summit such as the locations, infrastructure, logistic and reception services, security and the press in conformity with the request of both DPRK and the U.S., Hang said.

Despite these challenges, the preparations for the summit were well done and the related parties and reporters have highly evaluated the organization work and Viet Nam’s efforts to accomplish all necessary jobs, especially in ensuring security, just after a short time, the spokeswoman noted.

Singapore had two months to prepare for the first summit, but Viet Nam had only two weeks to make everything ready for the second meeting, she elaborated.-VNA
