VN treasures relationship with US

VGP – State President Truong Tan Sang applauded developments in the Viet Nam-US relations and wished to see US businesses increasing investment in Viet Nam.

The State President made the statement at his reception for US Trade Representative Ron Kirk in Ha Noi on September 3.

He said the two nations need to share benefits resulted from the promotion of relationship to a new height on the basis of equality, respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity for regional peace, stability and cooperation. 

State President Sang proposed that the US Government recognize Viet Nam’s market economy and grant the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) to the country.

The two sides should continue to closely cooperate in multi-lateral economic mechanisms and cooperation.

Mr. Ron Kirk highly valued Viet Nam’s socio-economic development successes and asserted that the US Government will accelerate the bilateral relationship in terms of economics, trade and investment in the future.

He said he expects that the two nations and other partners will complete the negotiating round of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The same day, Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh received US Trade Representative Ron Kirk.
