Viet Nam always considers the US one of its top important partners, said Phuc, adding that bilateral cooperation has been accelerated on the basis of mutual respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political systems.

The growth of the bilateral ties has contributed to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world as well as peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, stressed Phuc.

The Vietnamese Government chief welcomed Esper’s ongoing official visit to Viet Nam, saying the visit would practically contribute to the Viet Nam-US comprehensive partnership.

Phuc affirmed the Vietnamese Government supports the bilateral defense ties, asking the two defense ministries to take measures to effectively implement their signed agreements and the joint statement reached by their leaders.

Regarding trade, PM Phuc highlighted Viet Nam’s determination to step up balanced and sustainable trade with the US.

Phuc took the occasion to extend greetings to President Donald Trump, hoping to welcome the US President, Secretary of Defense and officials to international events in Viet Nam during its ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020.

Secretary Esper conveyed President Donald Trump’s greetings to PM Phuc, emphasizing that the US expects to strengthen defense cooperation with Viet Nam in a bid to contribute to peace and stability in the region.

He vowed to work with Viet Nam on various issues, including dioxin cleanup and peace-keeping operations.

The US backs the East Sea positions of Viet Nam and ASEAN and pledges to make positive contributions to safeguard peace, stability, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, Esper reiterated.
