VN to realize UN recommendations on child rights

VGP - A workshop was opened in Ha Noi on April 25 to devise a framework plan and roadmap to realise the recommendations the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) has sent to Viet Nam.

April 26, 2013 9:52 AM GMT+7

Addressing the workshop, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) Doan Mau Diep stated that Viet Nam, as a member of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, has fulfilled its commitments.

The country delivered successfully its report on the convention implementation in the 2008 – 2011 period on May 31, 2012 at the CRC’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. After reviewing the report, the CRC made 84 recommendations to the Vietnamese Government.

The recommendations cover building, amending, supplementing and adjusting laws and policies on the child, and enhancing the capacity of managing, monitoring and coordinating among ministries and agencies in protecting, caring and educating children.

To implement the recommendations effectively, the delegates agreed that national laws in the field should be in harmony with the international convention through codifying the principles and rights defined in the convention.

They also stated that it is necessary to strengthen the capacity of agencies related to the child, implement the oversight to the implementation of the child’s rights through relevant committees of the National Assembly, People’s Councils at all levels, relevant agencies and social organizations./.
