The festival will gather representatives of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), rice importers, and Việt Nam’s farmers nationwide, said a Vice Chairperson of the People’s Committee of Hậu Giang.

The country’s rice production techniques, wet-rice cultivation and market are also introduced at the event.

The festival, among a string of events in the run-up for the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội, is also expected a good chance for domestic rice exporters to seek foreign partners.

Various activities will be held during the festival, like the performances of the Mekong Delta’s arts relating to wet-rice cultivation, trade promotion seminars, exhibitions of local rice traders and exporters.

Organizers said that the event would help to raise people’s awareness of the national food security and highlight rice production capacity of Việt Nam as one of the world’s leading rice granaries.
