VN to focus on sustainable and fast development, says PM
VGP – Sustainable development will be closely combined with fast development in the following ten years, according to PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng's recent article about Việt Nam’s strategy on socio-economic development for 2011-2020 period and the focal tasks for 2011.

In his article, the PM stressed that sustainable development is considered the main lifeline in the implementation of the strategy, and that it is necessary to maintain high economic growth to narrow the development gap with other countries.
However, he noted that the quality of growth must be paid due attention.
Furthermore, he stressed the need for simultaneous economic and political renovation as the way to push up the comprehensive renovation, aiming to gain greater achievements in the future.
“Political renovation should focus on improving the Party’s leadership modality, linking the grass-root party committees’ power with responsibility, expanding democracy in the Party and society in order to bring into play the active role of the State agencies, people’s huge creativity, and the national solidarity for the construction and protection of the Fatherland,” noted the PM.

“Policies and mechanisms must be improved for speeding up the development of private economic sector, making it one of the driving forces of the national economy,” noted the PM.
In the context of international integration, Việt Nam should build an increasingly independent and self-reliant economy, PM Dũng said, adding that the country’s role in the international integration process much depends on its economic strength.
Strategic target and solutions
The strategic target of the country’s strategy is to turn Việt Nam into a basically modern industrial country by the year 2020, PM Dũng said, detailing three solutions for realizing the targets.

Secondly, developing qualified human resource, particularly high-quality workforce, through comprehensive reform of the country’s education system.
Thirdly, developing a comprehensive infrastructure system, focusing on traffic system and urban infrastructure.

The strategy mentions 12 development orientations based on the national strategic targets, said PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.
He added that economic restructuring, growth model renovation, social and economic development equaling, and environment protection are among the most important thoughts and the newest aspects of the development viewpoints.

The PM noted the importance of the growth model changing in the economic restructuring process, under which it must change from the model based on broadly investment, resources exploitation and low-quality laborers to the development methods based on the high scientific and technology, high-quality workforce and modern management skill.
The PM also mentioned the key tasks for 2011, focusing on the maintenance of macro-economic stability and inflation control, economic restructuring and growth model renovation, providing favorable condition for businesses’ expansion, social and cultural development and management skill improvement./.
