VN to export 4-4.5 mil. tons of rice in 2007

VNGOVNet – The PM gave on January 11 his direction on some proposals by ministries and sectors regarding rice export in 2007. They proposed an export volume of 4-4.5 million tons in 2007. Based on the actual output, the volume may be adjusted in the third quarter.

January 12, 2007 8:16 AM GMT+7

The PM assigned the Ministry of Trade (MoT) and the Working Team for Directing Rice Export to regulate the export volume every quarter of 2007 and pay attention to the following things:

To concentrate on trading, signing contracts and delivering rice to the agreed schedule for contracts with good price and large quantity to traditional markets such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Cuba, Malaysia, and Japan;

To broaden markets in Africa and the Middle East, able to meet various demands for a wide variety of rice quality with proper method of delivery; make sure that the sale price must follow the price table set by the Vietnam Food Association (VFA);

The goods delivery in traditional markets will be agreed among the VFA members; if necessary, the MoT and the Working Team can step in to decide.

Whenever the price fluctuates in the domestic market, influencing the average price level, the MoT and the Working Team are responsible for dealing with the problem arising or advising the PM on solutions if the problem is beyond their control.
