VN takes measures to protect fishermen in traditional fishing grounds
VGP - Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Hai Binh affirmed that Viet Nam has launched measures to protect its fishermen in traditional fishing grounds at a regular press conference in Ha Noi on September 25.
Earlier on September 24, China’s Maritime Safety Administration announced that China would conduct a large-scale live ammunition exercise in the South of Hainan Island near Viet Nam’s Hoang Sa (Paracels) archipelago.
When asked about the impact of the exercise would have on Vietnamese fishermen and the measures Viet Nam would launch to protect its fishermen, Mr. Binh said revealed that Vietnamese functional agencies verified the information and took necessary measures to protect its fishermen.
Regarding the question about China’s actions to convert reefs in Truong Sa (Spratly) in the East Sea, including the Johnson South Reef (Gac Ma in Vietnamese) into man-made islands, contrary to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), the spokesman confirmed that all of the activities of the parties concerned in the East Sea need respect the sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction of the related countries, comply with international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) without having any action that further complicates the situation.
He supposed that in this situation, all parties need to be responsible for maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea.
Answering the question about a Vietnamese worker in Taiwan (China), dead by drowning when saving a seven-year-old-baby, has not been taken back to Viet Nam as he was an illegal laborer, Mr. Binh said that the local community highly appraised the Vietnamese worker’s activity. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed functional agencies in Viet Nam and Taiwan to clarify the information and seek for ways to bring his corpse home as soon as possible.
The spokesman also acclaimed that there is no Vietnamese living and working in Iraq and only one Vietnamese citizen working in Syria. The Vietnamese Ambassador in Iran cum Syria is cooperating with the Syrian functional agencies and the International Organization for Migration to undertake necessary procedures to bring him home.
