VN strongly protests establishment of so-called Sansha city

VGP – Viet Nam’s consistent stance is to strongly protest the establishment of the so-called “Sansha city” and related acts that seriously violate Viet Nam’s sovereignty, said Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

Hang made the statement on October 15 in response to reporters’ inquiries to information that China has registered more than 400 businesses in what it calls “Sansha city.”

The information was announced last month on the official website of the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI) under the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

According to the AMTI, as of June last year, around 446 private enterprises, state-owned enterprises, and small businesses had registered in Sansha city, with 307 of these companies reporting a cumulative registered capital of US$1.2 billion.

Hang said such activities by China are neither valid or recognized, not beneficial to the friendly relations between the two countries, and complicate the situation in the East Sea.

The Spokesperson said Viet Nam has reiterated multiple times that it has full historical evidence and legal ground to attest its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos./.
